Military History

04-1970      U.S. Marine Corps   04-1990             

 

  • Served in the Republic of Vietnam 1970-1971

  • Awarded the Vietnam Service Medal/1star.   

  • Awarded the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry for leadership in combat.  

  • Infantry Troop leader 2nd Marine Division and 2nd Force Reconnaissance Co.

  • Received a letter of commendation from the Naval Investigative Service as part of the narcotics task force at Camp Lejeune, NC.

  • Trained as a Military Customs inspector for civilian and military personnel. Training included, the training and use of the Explosive Trace Detector, the walk thru Metal Detector, and X-Ray machine.  

  • Awarded the Navy Achievement Medal, 1981 and 1985, for exceptional        leadership in a time of crisis that involved saving the life of a Marine 1981 and the life of a civilian 1985. 

  • Received a letter of appreciation from Pitt County Sheriff Department for helping to resolved an organized auto theft ring in Pitt County.

  • Served as a Substance Abuse Counselor and Educator for Marines that had been diagnosed with Substance Abuse problems, or DWI problems. 

  • Certified Instructor for Behavioral Awareness Training.

  • Retired with honors from the U.S. Marine Corps, with many more awards and accommodations.

09-1990    SouthLight Inc.    06-1996 

 

  • Coordinator for the Wake Co. inmate substance abuse program and the Drug Action/SouthLight Residential program, which was maintained 24 hr. a day.

  • Designed and coordinated a substance abuse program for Wake Co. inmates who were diagnosed with substance abuse problems in reference to their criminal behavior.  

  • Served as a Substance Abuse Counselor as collateral duty from 1990-1996.

  • Served as a Case Manager for: clients that were HIV drug users in recovery, clients that were being released from incarceration back into mainstream society, and for recovering substance abuse clients in the residential program (1991-1996).   

  • Restructured and coordinated the residential program for Drug Action / South Light Inc. for inmates leaving jail or prison and community personnel seeking a drug free life style.

  • Supervised all Counselors, Case Manager and supporting staff that were assigned to the Wake Co. inmate and residential program, which maintained 24 hr., a day schedule.

  • Served on the Wake Co. board of Commissioners for the Homeless Task Force and the Criminal Justice Partnership Advisory Board.
